By the time our Costa Rica Decaffeinated splashes into your cup, it has completed a notable journey. Destined for great things, the coffee beans originate in the Central Valley, where a unique climate and favorable altitude produce some of the world’s best coffees. From our Costa Rican highlands, the coffee beans make their first journey to Europe where they undergo an indirect water process that removes their caffeine without sacrificing their flavor. This process mixes water with steamed beans to draw out their caffeine. The caffeinated water is then separated from the coffee beans and 99.9% of the caffeine is removed. The final step reintroduces the decaffeinated water to the beans restoring any flavor that may have been extracted during the process. The primed coffee beans return home to Costa Rica where we dark roast them.
